BIW Design Engineer

Job Summary:

  • Strong technical understanding of automotive Body-in-White systems, including design, development, and release processes.
  • Understanding of automotive vehicle systems and their packaging requirements
  • Developing part designs from master sections and design surfaces for Body Structure components.
  • Relevant experience and understanding of component manufacturing processes like sheet metal forming, roll forming, casting, and modern joining technologies.
  • Understanding of manufacturing feasibility/ design for manufacturing & assembly
  • Experience in managing engineering releases and change management for complex projects, including BOM management and related PLM activities.
  • Knowledge of applying various types of materials (steel, advanced high-strength steel, aluminum, adhesives/sealers)
  • Responsible to lead the design and development of weight efficient BIW structural designs to deliver the highest level of performance in NVH, durability, and crash performance from a blank page through to production.
  • Create and develop designs that are optimized for performance, weight, durability, and cost.
  • Develop a testing plan to prove out design concepts and conduct physical testing to confirm the design meets performance targets.
  • Vehicle launch experience

Education/Other:

  • Bachelor/Master’s degree in engineering from an accredited university
  • Must be authorized to work in North America.
  • Ability to work and travel domestically/internationally.
  • Proficient in CATIA V5.
  • Knowledge of Team Center is a plus.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
